I'm pretty pleased with this one!
I wasn't sure how to paint the face, any advice to make it look better or accentuate the glowing eyes?

Shen Jia - Week 06 (Follow Up)

Redid this a bit at home and tried to apply the feedback. I feel like I'm starting to grasp layer management better than before.

Still like the eye-bleeding saturated colours haha, but I do feel the piece is a bit stronger overall as is.

Shen Jia - Week 06

Welp, it seems that before the armour of my dwarf general was complete, the war started and he was killed off by his elven arch-nemesis/potential love interest.

As a result, here's another elf that hopefully won't fail in life. :P

Felt like I didn't really practice what last week's homework was intended for, so I tried to focus more on clothing this time.

Hi Noa,

here's what I have so far! I'm having trouble with the gold/metal texture as usual! Do you have some advice on that? I'm not sure I understand the tones and saturation that come into play in this material.
Also the belt kind of feel plastic instead of fabric but I can't pinpoint why...

Here is my updated version. I like how pretty much everything turned out, but Im still having trouble trying to get the skin to look right. I feel like it is starting to get a little muddy and would love some tips on how to go about fixing it if you have the time.

So this was supposed to be a elf armor suit but I think that the elf element pretty much got lost...
I guess it could be considered an egyptian elf ....

I started over on painting the skin and made other adjustments. Still have lots left to do, but I like the direction on where it is going much more than before.

Hi,

I'm really starting to feel I've improved!
Fabric is still really hard to render. I would like to have more contrast in the fabric without making it too dark. Also, when do I know when to stop rendering the satin like skirt thing?
The lighting is diffuse sun light and comes from the right.

Hey Noa, hope your week's been great! 

Here's what I managed to put out:

I spent pretty much half the time just tweaking the face just to get the eyes to not look too weird. My weak anatomy foundation is really starting to show haha. 😅

Have to admit that I stopped looking at references for the cloth after the clothing slowly got crushed to black...Sorry the cloth rendering exercise was lost.

Also, once again I merged all my layers after I started having a hard time managing all the layers. Ended up haunting me as the line layer was messy and was all done in pure black.

Hi Noa!
Here is the color 'draft' I have for the piece. I tried to keep the values different for the different clothes. I have the light coming from top left corner. I started rendering the coat and then felt like there was something missing so I put a basic shadow for every color first.

Im having some trouble with figuring out the best way to approach coloring. Its a little overwhelming. Is it best to start with a general tone and color the individual aspects related to that tone. Or is it also okay to just start coloring the individual aspects and adjust things as you go along. Any guidance would be very much appreciated
